Savita Bhatti besides being a stage, TV and film artist is also trained in teaching and journalism. Graduating in English (Hons) from Jesus and Mary College, Delhi University, she did her B.Ed from CIE, Delhi University. She is also a trained journalist from the Deptt of Mass Communication, Panjab University. She is also a position holder in MA (English) from Punjab University.
She has featured in all the works of Jaspal Bhatti Productions Like Ulta-Pulta, Flop Show, Full Tension, Thank You Jijaji and their superhit Punjabi films ‘Mahaul Theek hai’ and ‘ Chak De Phatte’ ‘Power Cut’. She has also worked in several Hindi films.
She headed the panel of judges for “Laughter da master”, a comedy stand up reality show and Miss PTC Punjabi presented by the no 1 punjabi channel PTC
She has in August 2016 been chosen as the Swach Bharat ambassador for Chandigarh for her exemplary contribution.
After losing her husband, she has initiated the Jaspal Bhatti Humour Festival In 2016 where the top notch talent in comedy takes the stage for 3 days. The Fest is unique because it is multi lingual and explores all genres in comedy.
She has performed with Mr Jaspal Bhatti on all his stage appearances. Their latest appearance in Star Plus programe ‘Nach Baliye’ evoked tremendous response from the public. They also won the ‘Most Mazedar Jodi Award’ in this programme.
She has been the executive producer of Jaspal Bhatti productions. It has to its credit top hit TV shows like Flop Show, Ulta-Pulta, and Full Tension. It has contributed to combining humour with social awareness by making films on leprosy for the BBC, spots/ads on petrol conservation for the Petroleum Conservation Research Association, spots on the girl child for the Punjab Health Systems corporation, stage shows on polio eradication for the WHO, spots on Aids awareness for the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India.
She headed Mad Arts, a film school from 2007-2015. Under her auspices, the school has produced two award winning films ‘Nanhi Chidiya’ focusing on the ill effects of female foeticide and ‘Bunty’s Tree’ on the growing perils of disturbing the environment. The school has also taken the initiative of hitting out at the malaise of drugs and alcohol addiction by staging its play ‘Thekeon Theke’ in more than 50 performances all over Punjab.
She has to our credit also a great number of successful stage performances. She has performed regularly at all the major film awards functions like Filmfare and also for clubs, voluntary organizations, and professionals all over the world.
She has also been a prolific member of the Nonsense Club founded by Mr Jaspal Bhatti.The club takes a potshot at all the troubles in society from overburdening of school bags to player’s auction at the IPL. From organising Drugs Mela, highlighting steep hike in petrol and vegetable prices, Bridegrooms being sold with price tags in a girls college etc.
She is also a writer currently writing regularly for the Dainik Bhaskar and Inklink, an online magazine.
